Olympus BX61 Motorized Fluorescence Microscope

The BX61 is a fully motorized research microscope built on the platform of the traditional upright frame. All major microscope functions can be completely automated, including focus, illumination, objective lens selection and filter wheels. A complete software command set allows for full computer control.

Cost: $5 per hour

The Olympus BX61 system offers the following:

  • Turret for automated multichannel fluorescence acquisition

  • Exfo x-Cite metal halide fluorescence
  • Light source with integrated iris

  • Filter cubes – DAPI, FITC, TRITC, Texas Red Imaging computer workstation with high performance wide-screen 24″ LCD

Thermo Scientific Microm HM 525 Cryostat

The LSI Thermo Scientific HM 525 Cryostat is a semi-electronic cryostat with stepper motor advance that provides superior consistency and reliability of sectioning results.

Cost: $5 per hour

Microm HM 525 Cryostat offers the following:

  • Open top cryostat with stainless steel cooling chamber.
  • Variable temperature regulation with automatic defrost cycle and integrated fast freezing device down to max -60°C.
  • Sliding window with heater and fluorescent lamp for cryo-chamber.
  • Motorized coarse feed in two directions with limit indication and automated switch off at front and rear limits of horizontal travel.
  • Section counter and indication of sum of section thickness.
  • Chamber temperature control:+5°C to -35°C
  • Fast freezing station: max -60°C

Microtome Features:

  • Section thickness: 1 to 500µm
  • Fine Section thickness: 1 to 20µm
  • Trimming thickness: 10 to 500 µm
  • Specimen retraction during return travel: 40 µm
  • Vertical specimen stroke: 60 mm
  • Horizontal specimen movement: 28 mm

Specimen Orientation:

  • x- and y- axes: universal 8° with zero positioning
  • z-axis: rotatable 360°
